LIFE IS THE WORLD OF ISLAM

A caravan is a group of travelers or merchants banded together by mutual protection and defense whil traveling through hostile country.They sold jewels, spices,perfumes, dyes, metals, rare woods, ivory, oils, and textiles. Travelers that needed to cross the desert usually joined a caravan. During the pilgramage to Mecca, caravans were the main feature. Camels were used in these caravns and a single one of Muslims traveleing from Cairo to Mecca might have as many as 10,000 camels. The caravan system stayed strong until motor trucks and airplanes were invented.
