MECCA

Mecca is in the Hijaz region in Saudi Arabia, specifically, 73 kilometers east of Jiddah in the Valley of Abraham. It is the most sacred place in Islam due to the fact that it is the birth place of the Prophet Muhammad and the Ka’ba is located here. Muslims believe it was built by Abraham and his son Ishmael and it is covered in gold-embroidered black fabric.Pilgrims circle it seven times per day and try to touch or kiss its cornerstone. They pray five times a day in its direction, known as the qibla. The also drink from the well of ZamZam because it is believed to have special properties. Muslims believe the Ka’ba was the first place created on earth.
